More chance of dying from a cold...

Ok ladies, I have a question for all of you out there in blogland.

Imagine that you're some sort of hero. At some point in the near future, you're going to be battling anything from Orcs to Elves to Space Aliens to 15 story tall killer robots.

Here's my question. What exactly would you wear for something like that. Take a moment to think about it.

Ok, back? Thought about it? Yes?

How many of you thought: "Hmmm, I'd wear a thong and some thigh-high boots and a top that consists of four shoelaces and 2 square inches of light gauze"?

I'm guessing very, very few of you.

Now what I need you to do is give a call to the videogame companies, the comic book companies and the people who do the cover art to 'Fantasy' novels. Tell them you are not amused and that they seriously, seriously need to find themselves girlfriends.

I'd probally go the other direction and end up looking like the battle version of the Michelin Man.
I want spikey boots as well- the higher the better. And I don't mean
stillettos either- I mean full on thigh high flat heeled boots with steel reinforcemnets and iron spikes studded all over them...... I mean to HURT somebody when I fight!!!

I always thought that those outfits were a wee bit silly, but at the same time (in terms of video games) in God of War, Kratos fights all the way to Olympus and kills Ares whilst wearing nothing but some sandals a dishrag over his junk, In Prince of Persia the prince pretty much puts a strip show on for the whole game (oh my! another piece of armor is cracked! I must rip it off in slow motion), and my geeky female friends drool over those dudes almost worse than I drool over Jessica Alba. Not to mention the super tall overly muscular super beefcake heroes in almost every fantasy story. In general terms yes females are super sexualized in videogames/tv/movies/everything, but at the same time everybody is hyper sexualized in some way shape or form.

The problem lies in that the main demographic of those things are males. Males like boobs. Males are more likely to buy things with boobs on it. On the contrary, look at romance novels. They are mostly read by females, and lots and lots of those covers are pictures of a really greased up half naked Fabio sweeping some swooning farm gal up onto a white stallion.

Nevertheless this is and issue that stems from thousands of years of gender definition, and may take an equal amount of time to reverse.
