When it comes to celebrity news, I usually just flat out ignore it. For some reason, Britney Spears shaving her head, Tom Cruise going off on another weird rant or Paris Hilton getting arrested for speeding just isn’t all that interesting to me.
It’s every day stuff that we’re supposed to care about, just because the person involved is ‘famous’.
The latest news about Paris Hilton, though, I just have to comment on.
Let’s see, the dictionary definition of a dumb blonde gets drunk, has her license suspended, then gets caught driving drunk yet again…and is sentenced to 45 days in prison.
Before I go on, I should say that I think that the punishment for drunk driving should be a lot more severe. It’s not like the seatbelt law where the only person at risk is the dumbass who chooses not to wear one, you’re putting other road users as serious risk.
Well, it turns out that Paris Hilton has been ‘transferred’ to her home after serving just 4 days of her sentence due to ‘medical issues’. Apparently, she was on the edge of a ‘nervous breakdown’.
Anyone else think this is completely and totally outrageous?
First of all, letting her out on ‘medical reasons’ is ridiculous. Prison is meant to be hard and traumatic. The idea is you go there, and when you actually get out, you never want to go back there again. Is anyone surprised that Paris Hilton, ‘Daddy’s little girl’, who’s used to getting whatever she wants whenever she wants, had trouble adjusting to prison life? For her, a hotel without a pool and room-service would be ‘traumatic’.
The second question is this: If, instead of
Paris Hilton has absolutely no idea what the real world is like. The fact she tried to argue that she shouldn’t go to prison because she ‘brings beauty and entertainment to the world’ is proof of that. She’s the quintessential spoiled little brat who thinks the rules just don’t apply to her. I’m pretty, I shouldn’t have to go to jail.
So, after endangering peoples lives, if she’d been forced to complete her full sentence in jail, instead of serving the vast majority of her ‘sentence’ in her 2700 foot Hollywood Hills home…it would have done her some good. Maybe she would have worked out that the rules do apply to her, so she’d better not break the law again. You know, the way prison is meant to work.
Instead, she’s served 4 days in prison, and is already home. What message does this send? It’s telling her that the rules don’t apply to her, and despite the fact she should be in jail right now, she can kick back and relax at home, just because she’s Paris Hilton.
Finally, upon being released, she said this:
"I want to thank the
No they didn’t, fairly and professionally would have seen your ass in jail for at least 80% of your sentence.
…I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence...
No, you’re not. You’re going to spend 40 days in your luxury Hollywood Hills home.
…I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes."
Yes, you’ve learned that you can do whatever you want and not face the consequences.
In the end, I just find it laughable that while you or me would be spending 45 days in jail (if we were lucky), she gets away with essentially getting ‘grounded’. What happens if she drives drunk and kills someone? Does she get sent to her room? Have her mobile phone taken away for a week?
Ridiculous.
[Edit - It seems our good friend OzzyC is clairvoyant. She was ordered back to jail this afternoon...and it appears the judge is PISSED at the LA sheriff's department for letting her go. Ain't that just a big ole ball of awesome?]

Apparently the judge was pissed too... let's see if he sends her back and holds the sheriff in contempt. THAT would be cool!
Seems your wish was granted, Ozzy. She was ordered back to jail this afternoon.
Yeah I was SOO pissed yesterday when I heard this. and so excited when I heard the news this morning. Now I'm somewhat of a fan of Paris. I'm kinda in between, she can seem like such a sweetheart and other times like a big ol bitch, and I'm not sure which to trust lol.
Anyway, I don't care who she is, if that happened to my friend I'd be well glad but still mad bc hello she committed a crime, and yet it got no punishment, and if you see the quotes she said on like Sunday, she said she was unhappy with how the media portrayed her, and she wanted to prove that she was not above the law, and like every other person. Yet she still got out. I was also mad that someone said "it was a race thing, and you'd never see a black person getting released that early from their sentence" Which is total crap, it's a money and social status thing.
Apparently she is clausterphobic, which is a very good explanation to her release, however, she should have mentioned that before and I'm sure another suitable punishment could have been worked out, especially since she is a big star. She already had her special needs cell... instead of your normal every day jail..
And this is a big thing, because if she had not been sent back to jail, it would mean TOTAL corruption in our law enforcement system, not as if we didn't know that before, but it's out there, and obvious. and THAT'S a big deal...
Just one point, Dearest.....
That seat-belt law you were referring to...it should be a LOT stiffer as well.
Persons not buckled in DO put others in serious risk because non-seat-belt users become projectiles when they're not restrained in a seat-belt in a vehicle.
Think about what happens to the person sitting in front of an unsecured person in an auto accident...or the poor pedestrian who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time-ie...when the unsecured person is thrown through the windshield, window or sunroof of the vehicle when it crashes. The force of weight from a human projectile is ENORMOUS and certainly enough to cause serious injury or even death to the innocents around them.
IMHO, I think when a person gets their license they should be required to either watch a very graphic video of auto crashes and the results...or take a trip to a hospital morgue to see the actual results of vehicular crashes, especially UNRESTRAINED Deaths ones(altho THAT may be going a bit far). MAYBE. JUST maybe tho.
I cannot stress the IMPORTANCE of buckling that seat belt EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY time you get in a vehicle- whether it's for a 3000 mile cross country trip or for a trip a block away to the neighbors house(in which case you should be walking anyway unless you have to carry a big item to or from there or for some medical reason).
Please, PLEASE....don't let yourself or a loved one become a statistic.
Okay....Please forgive me for using your comments section for a rant, but it's a subject near and dear to my heart,as you know and I sometimes get carried away when it comes to this subject.
and as for Paris, I'm just glad she's back off the roads and being punished like a NORMAL AVERAGE DUI Joe.
Kudos to the Judge who sent her back where she belongs.
